Wyndham Lakes Elementary School has been in existence for four years, opening its school doors in 2006. We are an exceptionally large school with a current population of 1052. The neighborhood is a culturally diverse population and has a free and reduced eligibility rate of 80%, qualifying Wyndham Lakes for federal assistance through the Title One program. Our school motto is “Expect Success, Nothing Less!” making it easy for our students to understand our approach towards everything from attitude to learning.
In 2008-2009, we raised our school grade from a C to an A. We also made 100% Adequate Yearly Progress, measured for the Federal No Child Left Behind Act. Most importantly, we focused our attention on our students scoring in the lowest quartile (25%). Last year, 79% of those students made progress in Reading and 67% made progress in Math.
In addition, our percentage of Level 1’s and Level 2’s dropped in all of our subgroups. Our total population decreased by 7 points in Reading and 6 points in Math; Hispanic Students decreased 8 points in Reading and 6 points in Math; Economically Disadvantaged Students decreased 8 points in Reading and 7 points in Math; and ELL Students decreased 10 points in Reading and 7 points in Math. The end result demonstrated more students scoring at Level 3 (at grade level) and above.
